Future of the book

Here's another smart and interesting commentary on the future of the printed book by my friend and Crosscut.com colleague Knute Berger. It was in today's Crosscut.com—ironically a web-only publication.

  1. I really appreciated Knute Berger's statement, "Part of the elegance of books is that they make physical what is not physical: ideas and imagination."

I had struggled to distill this concept down to a handful of words when we were discussing the future of the book in class on Tuesday. I think this is a perfect illustration of James J. Kilpatrick's admonition to writers, "At bottom, there are just two elements to the writing art. The first is to have something to say. The second is to say it clearly."
